Warning: This story contains spoilers for Stranger Things 2.

Steve Harrington had an incredible story arch in Stranger Things' second season. He was dumped by Nancy and dethroned as the school's head jerk, but developed a brotherly relationship with Dustin and proved his epic babysitting skills by the last episode—all while keeping his hair as voluminous as ever.

But actor Joe Keery, who portrays Steve on the show, revealed that audiences missed out on seeing another side to the high school heartthrob back in Season 1. He was supposed to have scenes in a Speedo, but the showrunners (AKA the Duffer brothers) unfortunately nixed the storyline, even though he spent weeks training for swim scenes.

"At the beginning of the first season, I got the part and I talked to the Duffer brothers and they were saying [Steve] is gonna be this jock character, he's a swimmer," Keery, 25, said on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

"So for the first six weeks prior to shooting, I was training, doing all this swimming prep. Also, I thought I was gonna be in, like, a Speedo. It's a TV show; the first thing I ever did, I was gonna be in a Speedo," the actor explained.

"And then we showed up and the first day and they're like, 'Oh the swimmer? Oh no, we cut that," Keery said. "It's like the most in shape I've ever been."

While Stranger Things fans may mourn the loss of a potential Steve Speedo scene, at least we still have his luscious hair (and newfound maternal instinct) to fawn over.

Keery's workouts weren't for nothing, though. The actor noted that he had to wear some very tight jeans on set. "They don't tell you about that when they cast you, though, about the jeans, and how tight they will make them," he said.
