Olivia Colman gave a touching and emotional acceptance speech at the Oscars last night, after winning the Actress in a Leading Role award for her performance in The Favourite.

But many were left confused when she seemed to mistakenly call Emma Stone "Emily", while thanking her two co-leads Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz.

"Emily and Rachel, the two loveliest women in the world to fall in love with and to go to work with everyday," she said of the pair. "You can imagine, it wasn’t a hardship."

However, this wasn’t a slip-up by Colman. Stone has previously confirmed that her birth name is actually Emily, as she changed it when she moved to Hollywood to try and make it as an actress.

"My real name is Emily Stone, but when I started acting, that name was already taken by another actress, so I had to come up with a different one," she told to W Magazine.

"For a 16-year-old, picking a new name is an interesting prospect, and back then I said, 'I’m now going to be Riley Stone!' So, for about six months I was called Riley."

But that didn’t stay for long. The actress recalled how people would be calling out; "'Riley! Riley! Riley! We need you on set, Riley!'" and she had "no idea who they were talking to".

"At that moment, I realised that I just couldn’t be Riley. So I became Emma. But I miss Emily. I would love to get her back."

Colman played Queen Anne in The Favourite and won the only award for the film at the 91st Academy Awards, out of all its nominations.

She became the 11th British actress to take home the prize, with Kate Winslet being the last to win in 2009 for her performance in The Reader.
